The Shortcut

Dooley Noted: 7/21/2016

Yesterday, I watched as Danny Quirk painted my husband’s thigh for ID II.

Our conversation wandered to many topics, but one was westward expansion and the Donner party.

As I researched the Donner party, I was fascinated by the detriment of a group of people taking a shortcut.

The shortcut put months and months on their trip, causing many to die of starvation and to resort to cannibalism to survive.

Like the Donner party, we all want a magic way to our goals.

We crave a shortcut, past the road of typical discipline and patience.

But if we keep taking shortcuts, we rob ourselves of a clear path to our destination.

For weight loss, no magic pill exists.

If it did, it would rob you of the power earned from discipline.

For strength goals, no magic program exists. You have to be consistent and dedicated.

For career goals, no magic job exists. You have to work and grab opportunities as they present themselves.

Avoid the shortcuts, and learn to dedicate and commit yourself to your goal.

Otherwise, the shortcut might just veer you farther off the path.

As always, it’s your call.
