The Patient Student

Dooley Noted: 7/22/2016
For the past three days, I’ve had the honor and privilege of co-teaching Immaculate Dissection anatomy concepts in Taiwan.

The students have this incredible quality that I rarely see.
They are patient with their understanding.
They let me speak about the lecture material, and they don’t consistently interrupt lecture.
They never go tangential with their questions.
They respect our team as their teachers, and they let us show them our concepts – even if they go against what they’ve previously learned.
They are listening to a second language, eagerly contemplating the concepts and applying them in breakouts.
They attempt to work ideas out with their team before calling me over.
They inspire me to be a higher quality student.
As a lifelong learner, I now have upped my game in the approach of knowledge integration.
Students like this Taiwan class consistently inspire me to think and do more with a more patient mind.
I hope we all can seek that patient part of ourselves that will smooth the path of learning.
I hope we all can prevent marriage to what we learn, but to leave the doors open to new concepts.
It’s not just about being patient in class, but exhibiting class in the pursuit of patience.
As always, it’s your call.
