My entire life, my mother never laughed when I wanted to do outlandish things.
Dooley: “Ma, can I sell hairbows I make around the neighborhood?”
Mamacita: “Well, yeah. Jo, go do it.”
Dooley: “Ma, I never took dance classes. Can I try out for the state fair though?”
Mamacita: “Yeah, Jo. Go do it.”
So, I did. As I came up with new ideas, she always gave the same non-judgmental advice.
Dooley: “Ma, I think I want to be a chiropractor.”
Mamacita: “Jo, go do it.”
Dooley: “Ma, I want to do what other people tell me I can’t. I want to teach anatomy at med schools as a chiropractor.”
Mamacita: “Jo, go do it.”
My mother says she is amazed by me, but it’s really her support and honest observation that I could do whatever I wanted. It was non-chalant.
Dooley: “Ma, I want to make my blogs into a book.”
Mamacita: “Dr. Jo, go do it.”
Dooley: “Ma, I want to teach NKT all over the world. I want to show how anatomy is important in clinical situations.”
Mamacita: “Well, Dr. Jo, go do it.”
Many people have to fight for support. I do not. I never have. The teachings from my amazing mother are endless. I feel it necessary to pay her back every day of my life by sharing everything I learn with the world. My tiny contribution is a reflection of her.
In your honor, Mamacita, Dr. Jo will go do it.
Happy Mother’s Day.
