Unless you are one of my already established patients, I am not your doctor.
On my website and social media, I provide information and insights, since the word “doctor” translates as “teacher.”
Day in and day out, I get novels sent to my email, asking for advice on specific cases.
Ask yourself: Would I do this to my current physician?
If you wouldn’t, ask yourself this: Is it ethical for Dr. Dooley to give me specific advice on my case, since she’s never met me and/or has never examined me?
I’m hoping both of those answers are no.
Please do not mistake information from advocation and advice.
I end the majority of my posts with the same tag line for a very specific reason.
It’s your call – the choices you make. I only advise my patients. I provide information for you to consider and share with your healthcare providers.
But unless you’re my patient, I cannot advocate the use of any therapies, supplements, diets, or lifestyle changes.
My posts are for educational purposes.
If you write to me about specific cases, I’m likely to tell you this:
“I’m not sure. I’d have to do an exam.”
Be frustrated. That is human nature. But please avoid sending me nasty mail when I won’t provide specific suggestions to someone I may have never met.
It’s not personal. You just deserve a proper assessment and proper care from a qualified health practitioner near you.
That’s my call.
