The Sabotage

Dooley Noted: 12/27/14

When people state goals to me, I’m always very excited to see them motivated for change.

As I request food logs, activity logs, and pain/mood logs, I also see why they are reaching out for help.

I hear this phrase every day of my life:

“I’ve tried everything.”

The one thing people usually haven’t tried is being consistent with anything they’ve tried.

They try acupuncture once or twice. When it didn’t magically eliminate their symptoms, they quit the therapy.

They try physical therapy for a month. Inevitably, it didn’t undo the habits they took years building. So, they quit the therapy.

They exercise for a few months. When it doesn’t create dramatic results, they quit the program.

These are examples of a self sabotaging attitude.

If you want to get out of pain, you will have to change.

If you want to lose weight and keep it off for good, you will have to change.

If you continue to do as you are doing, you will not change. So why should your body?

Your body does not crave change. It craves homeostasis. It craves consistency.

So, what you do consistently matters most.

You are your habits. You are not your fads, nor your moments of inspiration.

You are what you consistently do.

If you have back pain yet continue to sit while working, expect more back pain.

If you have trouble losing weight but won’t put the fork down and exercise, expect to keep the weight on.

If you want to change – don’t expect magic to happen on January 1.

Start today. Then make consistent efforts to change your habits.

Yes, it takes work.

You have nothing better to do than to change your life.

As always, it’s your call.
