Calmness as a Practice

Dooley Noted: 5/9/2016

My husband is a human marvel of calmness.

I asked him how not even the most stressful situations stress him.

He said, “I experience stress. But I don’t lose my calmness.”

Naturally, I asked him how he stays calm in high stress.

He said, “Well, I practice calmness. It’s a discipline. Most people don’t think of it as such.”

For him, it’s just like bending steel to get better at bending steel.

Or, when Pavel or one of his disciplines states, “To press more, you need to press more.”

I am not surprised that calmness is a discipline in the same vein.

When stress hits you, it will be much easier to handle if you have practiced calmness.

I am learning to do this in a simple way.

Each morning, I lay down and breathe without moving any other parts.

I don’t leap out of bed anymore.

I lay there and practice calmness.

That way, I have at least practiced calmness twice daily.

Then, I start practicing it more throughout the day. It takes training, just like anything else.

When stress hits, laws of statistics will support I have higher probability of being calm of I have already practiced calmness.

I hope you can consider calmness as a discipline to enhance your health and well-being.

As always, it’s your call.
