Make My Day

Dooley Noted: 10/7/2015   Last night, I had a beautiful conversation with my mother.    She was recounting how much she liked her job as a cashier at Walgreens.    If that sounds like a typical, un-sexy job, then you’re doing life wrong.    We Dooley’s make whatever we do an event.    Mom was recounting how a 93 year-old woman was at her counter, and she had trouble finding her credit card.    As … Read more

Think About It

Dooley Noted: 10/6/2015   Two major parts of my initial assessment and every subsequent visit include analyses of both breathing and gait.   My patients always have initial shock that I’m interested in seeing these things.   I often get comments, like the following:   “But I breathe every day all day. How could I not be doing it right? I’m still alive!”   “I walk thousands of steps per day. Can you really change … Read more

Learning from Your Peers

Dooley Noted: 10/5/2015  This past weekend, I got to teach for the first time alongside both my business partners, Jason Kapnick and Joe Boffi.    It’s amazing how you can work side-by-side with someone every day, but you can still pick up new things from them. We were assisting at the Russian Kettlebell Challenge (RKC) level one instructor certification. I’ve never known assistants to get a shot at teaching sections to the candidates. But our … Read more

Being Im-Pressive

Dooley Noted: 10/3/2015    This week saw me more down than I have been in quite some time.    Instead of locking myself in my bedroom to be de-pressed, I pressed forward and reached out for help.    Today, I had the honor of assisting at the Russian Kettlebell Challenge (RKC) Level I cert for the first time ever at Catalyst SPORT.    I was asked to teach The Press, which was an honor I … Read more

Russian KB Swinging for Arm Swing in Gait

Dooley Noted: 10/2/2015   Today, I had the honor of assisting the Russian Kettlebell Challenge level one instructor certification for the first time ever at our facility, Catalyst SPORT.   Our master chief instructor, Josh Henkin, made a wonderful point about the value of the kettlebell swings that I had not yet considered.    He discussed the horizontal nature of the arc created by the swing, and how much it has carryover into sagittal plane … Read more

On Being Distraught

Dooley Noted: 9/29/2015   This weekend, I had the honor of lead instructing a NeuroKinetic Therapy Level II seminar in our own House of Gain, Catalyst SPORT.   I met brilliant and articulate trainers, Pilates instructors, and therapists of all types.   They came from around the world to learn the technique, putting their brave hearts and minds forward to take themselves to the next level of understanding.   When you’re surrounded by such inspirational … Read more

What You Prioritize

Dooley Noted: 9/28/2015 Saying that you’re busy is a complete illusion. This morning, I started my day early. I had a patient at a private facility, and then I raced over to Catalyst SPORT to treat the rest of my patients. I then raced to Cornell Medical to help in the lab.  I switched badges and raced to NYU to teach another set of labs.  I’m writing this with voice dictation, as I race from … Read more

The Birthday

Dooley Noted: 9/27/2015Today is my father’s birthday.  Two years ago, he was undergoing chemo on his birthday. A small cell carcinoma choked off his voice.  It attempted to steal his spirit.  He would squeak, “Hi, Jo,” when I called, as cancer choked off his airway. But chemotherapy worked.  His hair grew back. His spirit followed. Today, he turned 74 and still remains cancer-free on imaging and tests And as I called him today, he had … Read more

The Worthiness

Dooley Noted: 9/26/2015   I have met people who feel they are unworthy of love.   They say they want it, but then do everything to push it away when it presents itself.    I see similarities in people who don’t want to get well.   I’ve dealt with a fair share of chronic pain patients that don’t want to get better.   That may sound harsh, but these are the people that don’t follow … Read more

The Life Changer

Dooley Noted: 9/23/2015   Today, I treated patients early.    I trained.    I walked an hour to the Cornell Med dissection lab.    I helped students explore the superior and inferior mediastina.    I walked an hour back, with meetings in my ear.    I treated more patients.    And as I arrived on the subway train, I opened an email that changed my life.    A super brilliant L.A. trainer took the time … Read more
