The Patient I Don’t Touch

Dooley Noted: 7/2/2014 One of my most impressive patients is one I’m not permitted to touch. Because of religious reasons, he could not shake my hand upon meeting me. He informed me we were not allowed to touch. At first, I thought to myself: “How can I provide manual therapy without touching my patient?” I admit, I didn’t see that coming. But I wasn’t about to turn him away. He was referred specifically to me, … Read more

Finding a Home

Dooley Noted: 7/1/2014 After a year of planning, I finally have an office to call home, within a gym I co-own named Catalyst S.P.O.R.T. I suppose it’s the closest I will ever feel to having a newborn. I knew it would have stresses, but I can’t even feel them. It’s quickly become a place I care about with infinite concern and endless love and commitment. Yesterday, I found myself happily humming as I picked up … Read more

My Personal Experience with Manual Therapy

Dooley Noted: 6/30/2014 At age 21, I received my first chiropractic adjustment. It was so beneficial that I changed my career goals in order to become a doctor of chiropractic. While in school, I was equally fascinated and discouraged. I loved the science and autonomy to help with nutrition and movement care. However, I was frustrated by the consistently passive manual therapy techniques and requests to see patients several times a week for these treatments. … Read more

NKT at Catalyst S.P.O.R.T.

Dooley Noted: 6/29/2014 This weekend, I had the honor of assisting my boss and mentor, David Weinstock, at our yearly East Coast NeuroKinetic Therapy (NKT) Level III seminar. It was an extraordinary seminar, as was every NKT I’ve ever attended. But this one was special. I was surrounded by some of the most experienced NKT practitioners from all across the country – and some from around the world, like Australia, Canada, Morocco, and England. I … Read more

My First Experience with Floatation

Dooley Noted: 6/28/2014 Yesterday, I had my first experience with a Floatation Bath. This includes a concentrated magnesium sulfate bath (think Epsom salt) in a sensory deprived environment. I grew up taking baths, so I can literally stay in a tub for hours. Thus, I expected to enjoy this experience right out of the gate. I was surprised at what transpired. A very kind gentleman named Sam explained the process, a service he has provided … Read more

Anatomy Angel: The Hyoid

Dooley Noted: 6/26/14 The hyoid bone is an incredible bone that is practically floating in space, just anterior to your C3 vertebrae. If you run your fingers directly under your chin, you will run into its body. This incredible bone does not articulate with any other bones. It is anchored by muscular and ligamentous attachments. The hyoid attaches to the tongue, thyroid cartilage, pharynx, mandible (jaw), shoulder, skull, and sternum. Due to it’s vast attachments, … Read more

Therapy as Aspirin

Dooley Noted: 6/25/2014 I am not a magician. I am also not a healer. There will be no laying on of hands as the gods infuse you with healing while you lay on my treatment table. I don’t seek to create a voodoo experience that gives you a moment of relief, just to see you in discomfort on your ride home. Will you leave my office feeling better? It’s highly likely. But I won’t give … Read more

Right and Wrong

Dooley Noted: 6/24/2014 Many patients have come to me because they received outdated, debunked advice. When I shed some light, they appear perplexed. They always state the same thing. “Well, why was I never told about this?” You weren’t told because you didn’t investigate for yourself. One fancy person gave you advice, and you allowed yourself to feel obligated to take it. I’ve done it myself. But I won’t do it to my patients and … Read more

Rolling the Dice

Dooley Noted: 6/23/2014 This past year has been a year of taking chances. I went from a sole proprietor to owning three start-up businesses, while preparing a book for publication and still teaching anatomy for 6 colleges. With “busy” noted as illusionary, I still had faith I would find a man that would want to share my unconventional, exciting life. And I did. He is supportive and kind, smart and strong. And he has known … Read more

Extra Space

Dooley Noted: 6/22/2024 On average, I work about 80 hours a week. I don’t do this because I must. I do it out of pure, unfiltered dedication and love for my career choices. So, I am seldomly home. It was a huge decision for me to get my own apartment in Queens, a borough of New York City. My roommates were some of my best friends, and I was rarely home. So, why move? I … Read more
