The Rights

Dooley Noted: 3/31/2015 You are a professional therapist.  Hopefully, you took an oath to help people. When you were labeled an expert, you weren’t granted the free will to make patients feel damaged.  You don’t have the right to tell your patients that they are a mess.  You don’t have the right to let them believe that about themselves, either.  You don’t have the right to diagnose off an MRI.  You don’t have the right … Read more

Why I Tear Phone Books

Dooley Noted: 3/30/2015 In December, strongman Chris Rider handed me a phone book.  I listened to his technique cues and breathed deeply into my gut.  I saw myself struggle. That’s when doubt started to trick me into thinking I couldn’t do it.  That’s also when the decision is yours.  You can let doubt win, never really knowing your capabilities.  Or, you can move forward and actually see for yourself what feats you can accomplish.  So, … Read more

Learning from Friends

Dooley Noted: 3/29/2015 I took Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) Part A last year, and I found myself using components of it daily. But as we often do, we return to what we know and to what we are accustomed.  So, I didn’t find myself frequently studying the technique in order to advance my knowledge.  Then, my former chiropractic classmate came to town.  Dr. Kris Kirby sat behind me for nearly 4 years in chiropractic school.  … Read more

Tight Clothes and Tight Muscles

Dooley Noted: 3/27/2015 On a new patient visit, I used to insist my patients wear a tank and shorts. Then, it hit me.  Most of them don’t wear a tank and shorts to work, or even at home.  So, this outfit was not a true representation of how they moved all day. So I started doing my SFMA, NKT, breathing, and gait assessments in whatever clothes they wore to my office.  The results were astonishing!  … Read more

Knocked Loose

Dooley Noted: 3/25/2015 It started in November 2014.  I woke up with pain in the back of my arm. As I was warming up for a workout, I couldn’t bear weight on my right arm without getting searing 10/10 pain in the back of my arm.  I passed all the orthopedic tests.  I had consistent acupuncture, herbal, chiropractic, massage and physical therapy treatments. I was assessed by an orthopedist.  Seven different therapists. Seven different opinions. … Read more

The Outpouring

Dooley Noted: 3/24/2015 Some people think Facebook isn’t real life.  But real life is changing.  I can’t recall my last phone call that wasn’t my mother.  I live far from my family.  I meet around 2,000 new people a year. Keeping up with them would be impossible by phone or by meetings.  So, I stay connected with them via Facebook and email. So, when I had an overwhelming week, I received multiple communications of people … Read more

The Dream Team

Dooley Noted: 3/23/2015 This last weekend, I had the honor of lead instructing the Level I NeuroKinetic Therapy seminar in New York City at Catalyst SPORT. This seminar was special for many reasons.  The gym I co-own, which houses my practice, was the host for the seminar. My two business partners, Jason Kapnick and Joe Boffi, were attendees. These two expert trainers have seen how NKT has helped their clients and themselves, so they wanted … Read more

Deus Ex Machina

Dooley Noted: 3/21/15 Last night, I ended an arduous midweek.  It wasn’t particularly hectic, but I was hit with significant stressors.  In my despondent state, I took a moment to wonder if I was actually doing anyone any good.  For a quick moment, I heard myself whisper, “Am I following the right path in life?” Then, my last patient of the week arrived.  It was visit 4.  She told me how strong she was becoming, … Read more

Why Gossip is Bad For Your Health

Dooley Noted: 3/19/2015 Jetlag is not fun.  Jetlag plus heartbreak is even less fun. Add those to the gossip mill trying to threaten your professionalism, and it makes for a three-day shot of sleep deprivation. I live my life by intense rules of truth and integrity. So when my integrity is threatened, I can’t lay there defenseless.  I investigate.  That took up several hours of my evening, into this morning.  And I found what I … Read more

To Lecture and To Learn

Dooley Noted: 3/18/15 Yesterday, I had the honor of lecturing to a group of about 30 OBGYN residents.  We discussed the anatomy of the pelvic floor, as it pertains to the bony and ligamentous attachments to the pelvis. These group of residents are learning a procedure to help with urinary stress incontinence and urinary bladder prolapse. They are working on perfecting a technique that minimizes invasion into important pelvic floor musculature and fascia, while providing … Read more
