Anatomy Angel: Grief and Breathing

Dooley Noted: 9/30/15   In the past two weeks, I battled a serious upper respiratory tract infection.    All phlegm was clear, and I noticed a huge emotional component to its onset.   This got me thinking of the anatomy of grief and breathing.   Our limbic system is part of the central nervous system that controls Homeostasis, Olfaction, Memory, and Emotion.     Therefore, I like to say the limbic system takes us “HOME.”   … Read more

What You Prioritize

Dooley Noted: 9/28/2015 Saying that you’re busy is a complete illusion. This morning, I started my day early. I had a patient at a private facility, and then I raced over to Catalyst SPORT to treat the rest of my patients. I then raced to Cornell Medical to help in the lab.  I switched badges and raced to NYU to teach another set of labs.  I’m writing this with voice dictation, as I race from … Read more

The Birthday

Dooley Noted: 9/27/2015Today is my father’s birthday.  Two years ago, he was undergoing chemo on his birthday. A small cell carcinoma choked off his voice.  It attempted to steal his spirit.  He would squeak, “Hi, Jo,” when I called, as cancer choked off his airway. But chemotherapy worked.  His hair grew back. His spirit followed. Today, he turned 74 and still remains cancer-free on imaging and tests And as I called him today, he had … Read more

The Worthiness

Dooley Noted: 9/26/2015   I have met people who feel they are unworthy of love.   They say they want it, but then do everything to push it away when it presents itself.    I see similarities in people who don’t want to get well.   I’ve dealt with a fair share of chronic pain patients that don’t want to get better.   That may sound harsh, but these are the people that don’t follow … Read more

People Who’ve Changed Me: Part 41

Dooley Noted: 9/24/2015   The Person: Chris Rider     His Profession: performing strongman, strength coach, strongman seminar instructor    How I met him:   I met Chris through Eric Moss his first New England-based Coney Island Strongmsn seminar.    He taught me how to rip phone books, tear cards, and bend steel with my bare hands. The Life Changer

Dooley Noted: 9/23/2015   Today, I treated patients early.    I trained.    I walked an hour to the Cornell Med dissection lab.    I helped students explore the superior and inferior mediastina.    I walked an hour back, with meetings in my ear.    I treated more patients.    And as I arrived on the subway train, I opened an email that changed my life.    A super brilliant L.A. trainer took the time … Read more

For Love and Science

Dooley Noted: 9/22/2015   Some people like to watch me teach or be taught by me.   The people I can reach are those who are past the place of rote memorization and just making the grade.   These people are the ones wanting to be passionate about something – anything. They want more than to punch the clock but to be kicked out of the building by security because they are staying so late. … Read more

Anatomy Angel: Hip Compression

Dooley Noted: 9/21/2015   The hip joint is s ball-and-socket, triaxial joint with enormous movement potential. As the femur (thigh bone) makes the joint with the acetabulum (pelvic landmark), the hip moves into flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, internal and external rotation.              In a healthy, properly mobilizing system, the hip naturally compresses and decompresses as it moves through space.    As the lower extremity swings through gait, the hip naturally compresses. … Read more

Seminar Review: NeuroKinetic Therapy (NKT) Symposium

Dooley Noted: 9/20/2015   This weekend, I was given the honor of speaking and attending the first ever NKT Symposium. I flew Friday night after teaching to San Diego, where I had to miss a fun dinner and cookie bake-off that bonded the NKT community.   But all was redeemed on Saturday, when the seminar went full-force with general assemblies on cleaning up techniques and working with client emotional issues during sessions.       Other … Read more
